Who is the patron saint of travellers?

The legend, short and without church-speak

Christopher was a giant who carried travellers across a dangerous river – without a boat, simply on his shoulders. One day he carried a child who grew heavier with each step until he almost drowned. At the end of the ford, it turned out: The child was Christ, and the weight was the burden of the whole world. Since then, his name has been translated as “Christ-bearer”.

Since then, he has been considered the patron saint of all who are on the move – travellers, drivers, pilots, sailors. In the past, it was said: Anyone who sees an image of Christopher in the morning will return home safely that day.
