Total delivery time is made up of production time and shipping time. Most pieces are made by hand in my workshop only after you order, so production usually takes 5 to 14 days. Some more elaborate pieces take longer.

There are exceptions:
Pieces that are already finished ship within 2 days.
Some products take longer, either because I have to wait a long time for materials or because the waiting list is long at that moment.

The production time is normally shown on each product page. In the rare case that something takes longer than planned, I'll get in touch and tell you why.

Shipping time

Shipping time is out of my hands. DHL is usually pretty quick, but as we all know there are days in the year when things don't go as planned.

Shipping costs for fully insured delivery

Germany: €3.50 to €28 depending on order value. Free shipping from €100.

United Kingdom: €15 to €85 depending on order value.

Switzerland: €30 to €100 depending on order value.

Shipments to non-EU countries do not include German VAT or customs duties. Import fees may be charged on arrival.

Shipping costs depend on the size and number of pieces and are shown at checkout. All parcels ship with DHL.

International orders from countries without direct shipping

You want a handmade piece or a special accessory from the SCHMAAL workshop, but you live in a country I currently don't ship to directly?

This currently affects all EU countries:

The reason is the different national packaging and environmental rules a small workshop like SCHMAAL would have to meet to ship directly to each country. That means registrations, reports and in some cases local representatives. For a one-man workshop, the effort and cost are simply too high.

So that you can still order the piece you want, there's a simple solution:

Order with a German delivery address via Mailboxde

You can set up a personal German delivery address with a German parcel forwarding service such as Mailboxde.

How it works:

1. Sign up with Mailboxde and get your personal German delivery address.
2. Use this address as the shipping address when you order at SCHMAAL.
3. I make your piece in my workshop as usual and ship it to that German address.
4. Mailboxde then forwards the parcel to your home address.

That way you can order from SCHMAAL even if I don't ship to your country directly.

Why this way?

SCHMAAL isn't a big shipping platform. It's a small workshop. Every piece is made by hand and every parcel is packed personally.

I want to spend my time and energy where it belongs: on quality handwork, unusual design and products built to last.

International packaging and shipping rules differ a lot from country to country. Registering in every single country would be out of all proportion for a small workshop.

With a German delivery address, you can still get your handmade SCHMAAL piece.

Mailboxde is an independent service provider. You sign up with them directly and enter into your own contract with Mailboxde.

Shipping & resources

Handling resources responsibly matters a lot to me.

That's why, wherever possible, I don't use brand-new packaging material when shipping and only fall back on it in exceptional cases. This is possible thanks to the support of many local retailers.

So if you find lettering on the outer packaging of your parcel that has nothing to do with SCHMAAL, don't be surprised. It's only there to protect the environment and save resources.
