The Silver Chain for Men – Pure and Without Frills
A silver chain without a pendant lives by one thing: its links. No motif distracts, no story needs to be explained. The chain itself is the statement. That is why the type of link, the thickness, and how the chain drapes are important here.
Which type of link suits you?
Anchor chain: Oval links that interlock alternately, like a ship's chain. Classic, robust, never out of fashion. Polished or oxidized.
Curb chain: Multiple links per element, creating a round, full profile with a lot of presence. For men who want a chain that can be seen.
Byzantine: An elaborately intertwined, three-dimensional link structure. It looks almost braided and has more character than any standard chain.
Lightweight curb chain: The lightweight version for everyday wear. Drapes smoothly, sits discreetly, and fits under any shirt.
Ball chain: Simple, clean, a bit rough. The classic with military undertones.
Wear it plain or combine it with a pendant
Every silver chain here can be worn on its own. It is also the right base for a pendant. If you are looking for a motif, check out my chains with pendants or the individual pendants. You can find out which length suits you and how to wear chains layered on the overview of all men's necklaces.
Frequently asked questions about silver chains for men
Which silver chain for men is the most robust?
The anchor chain and the curb chain are particularly stable due to their interlocking links and are made for everyday wear. The lightweight curb chain is lighter and intended more for a subtle look.
Oxidized or polished – what is the difference?
Polished silver shines bright and clean. Oxidized silver is deliberately darkened, which makes the links stand out in three dimensions and gives the chain a rougher, older appearance. Over time, the oxidation wears off at the contact points, and the chain develops its own patina.
Can I hang my own pendant on the silver chain?
Yes, as long as the pendant's bail is large enough for the links and the clasp. If in doubt, write to me, and I will tell you which chain is suitable.
How can I tell if a silver chain is genuine?
Genuine sterling silver usually bears the 925 stamp. I explain what the stamps mean in the article about jewelry stamps.
